The Magic Flute

By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

In 2014, Saskatoon Opera will continue its long history of presenting top-quality of opera by mounting a production of one of the world’s most popular operas, The Magic Flute, in an innovative technological setting. Mozart’s sublime music enchants while illuminating essential truths beneath the fairytale story. Many numbers in this score are the most popular in opera, among them the Queen’s vengeance aria, Papageno and Papagena’s love duet and Pamina’s sorrowful farewell. Leading the cast of rising Canadian opera stars are coloratura soprano, Ambur Braid (Queen of the Night) and bass Neil Craighead (Sarastro) in their debuts with Saskatoon Opera joining returning artists, Christopher Enns (Tamino), Lida Szkwarek (Pamina) and Regina native, Gordon Bintner (Papageno). Maestro Christopher Mokrzewski (Calgary Opera, Against the Grain Opera) conducts the Saskatoon Opera Orchestra and Rob Herriot (Calgary Opera, Manitoba Opera) is the stage director.
