Saskatoon Opera presents
Saskatoon Opera in Schools Tour 2015

Hansel and Gretel
by Engelbert Humperdinck

Presented by

Since 2001, Saskatoon Opera’s annual Opera in Schools Tour has introduced the operatic art form to 75,000 elementary and high school students. Though the tour’s primary audience has been Saskatoon students, the tour has also traveled to the communities of North Battleford, Glaslyn, Dalmeny, Rosetown, Biggar, Humboldt, Middle Lake, Davidson, Outlook, Clavet, Viscount and Lanigan. The organization’s outreach and educational initiatives have been successful in generating a strong interest in opera among Saskatchewan’s youth.

This year, we are pleased to announce that the tour of Engelbert Humperdinck’s well known and beloved opera, Hansel and Gretel will be performed in schools in Saskatoon, Regina and Swift Current in May 2015. The performance will be followed by an educational question and answer session to engage young audiences. The Opera in Schools Tour gives performance experience to local singers who are studying at opera training programs. For many, this is their first professional debut as an artist.

Tour Dates May 4–15, 2015

Saskatoon Opera in Schools gratefully acknowledges the support of the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan.

“As a school administrator, and on behalf of our students, I am so grateful that Saskatoon Opera in the Schools provided an opportunity for the arts to be opened up to our students in this way.” – Doug Boyd, principal, Caswell School, May 2012
